Location and Direction

LOCATION

The village of Montségur with its 160 houses and Cathar castle ruin on the rock formation called the Pog is located in the department of the Ariège in the Midi-Pyrénées region of southern France, south of Toulouse and north of Andorra, 80 km south-west of Carcassonne and 100km from the Mediterranean.

The nearest airports are Toulouse, Carcassonne and Perpignan.

The village is at an altitude of 900m and the castle at 1200m.

DIRECTIONS

From Foix

Take the D117 from Foix to Lavelanet.

Just before Lavelanet, take the D109 direction Montferrier.

Go through Montferrier and continue until Montségur.

From Carcassonne Airport (75km)
On to D119, direction Foix, Mirepoix
Through Montréal, Through La Force
At roundabout to left (3^rd exit)
Through Fanjeux on D119
Follow road around to left just before Mirepoix, Over bridge
On entering Mirepoix, turn left following the sign ‘Tous directions’, Across traffic lights
At traffic lights left (petrol station on left)
At roundabout straight on follow sign ‘Chateau de Montségur’
Through La Bastide de Bousignac
Straight across 2 roundabouts (entry and exit of Laroque d’Olme, through Laroque d’Olme)
Into Lavelanet
At roundabout follow sign ‘Chateau de Montségur’ (to the right, 3^rd exit)
Straight across roundabout (Super U at left)
Through Les Chaubets
Turn left immediately after Les Chaubets (Les Chaubets joins to Lavelanet)
Through Villeneuve d’Olmes
Through Montferrier (at junction in village, turn right, rather than straight through village)
Keep going until you get to car park on top of hill, below castle
Follow the road down to the village
